Collegium Palatinum – IH Heidelberg has been a member of the International House network since 2010. The International House World Organisation (IHWO) was founded in 1953 with the goal of raising standards of language schools and language courses. Today, IHWO is the oldest and largest network of language schools worldwide, with 150 member schools in 50 countries on all continents. IHWO stands for high teaching standards in modern languages and has an excellent reputation in training language teachers. Those who choose to study at an IH school can be sure to have made an excellent choice.

All IH schools operate according to the IHWO guidelines and are inspected regularly. The primary key to quality language instruction are highly qualified teachers. To maintain this standard, International House offers numerous face-to-face as well as online courses for the continuous professional development of teachers. The IH Certificate / IHC in particular has gained international recognition and is comparable to the Cambridge CELTA for English language instruction. The IHC is now available for numerous languages.

IH teachers have been authors of numerous language instruction textbooks such as Headway, Language to Go, Cutting Edge and Natural Grammar and Fountain.

The work of IHWO covers the following areas:

  • Training and continuous education of language teachers
  • Organising conferences and workshops
  • Development of quality standards for language instruction
  • Support of member schools

Striving for Quality

Membership in IHWO is a guarantee of professional instruction and high quality language courses, from the actual lessons to the attention to students, from ongoing teacher training to equipment and facilities.

Network

IH partner schools benefit from the contacts and exchange of ideas within the network. Close cooperation often develops among members. There are annual conferences, such as the Directors’ Conference or the Young Learners’ Conference, workshops, road shows and participation in fairs. IH schools have access to teaching material as well as marketing and administrative material.
